SBI: Wife of Territorial Defense Commander Got UAH 922K in Rear

Law enforcement officers reported suspicions to the former commander of one of the territorial defense brigades and his three subordinates, who helped the brigade commander's wife receive more than 922 thousand hryvnias in additional remuneration, the SBI press service reported.

It is reported that in late July 2023, the official placed his wife in the brigade he leads as a rifleman in order to arrange for her increased payments. In order to formally comply with the law, the couple even divorced, but remained in family relations.

Subsequently, the brigade commander involved two subordinates in the scheme - commanders of units subordinate to him.

They prepared false documents about the woman's alleged participation in hostilities on the contact line. Thus, for the period from July 2023 to April 2024, she illegally received more than 922 thousand hryvnias in additional remuneration.

It is noted that his wife served alongside her husband all this time and was engaged in horse breeding on a special farm, and even managed to spend two weeks in Poland, having voluntarily left the military unit.

The former brigade commander, his wife, and two of his subordinates were reported on suspicion of misappropriation of someone else's property through abuse of official position in prior conspiracy by a group of persons on a particularly large scale (Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

In addition, as noted, the men and another subordinate brigade commander are suspected of official forgery (Part 2 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and the woman is suspected of unauthorized leaving a military unit (Part 5 of Article 407 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The sanction of the articles provides for imprisonment for a term of up to 12 years with confiscation of property. The issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is being decided.

Earlier, employees of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) reported suspicions to the deputy commander of the 110th separate mechanized brigade . He is suspected of earning money from absent subordinates.

We also reported that employees of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) conducted investigative actions against the commander of the 211th Pontoon-Bridge Brigade of the Armed Forces Support Forces, Colonel Oleg Poberezhnyuk, who is suspected of abusing soldiers. Subsequently, the court arrested Poberezhnyuk for two months with the possibility of posting bail of more than 12 million hryvnias.
