Ex-management of the Forest Cemetery is suspected of embezzlement
Law enforcement officers uncovered a large-scale corruption scheme at the Forest Cemetery. The ex-director of the funeral service and his deputy are suspected of embezzling almost 900,000 hryvnias allocated for the construction of the columbarium wall.
This was reported in the press service of the capital police.
In 2019, the utility ordered the construction of a columbarium wall - a special structure for storing urns with ashes after cremation. However, during the preparation of project documentation, the ex-director deliberately overestimated the cost of construction materials. In particular, he entered unreliable data regarding the cost of clinker bricks.
The deputy director, in turn, approved the acts of acceptance of the completed works, despite the fact that the real cost of construction was much lower. As a result, nearly 900 thousand hryvnias of budget funds were unjustifiably transferred to the contracting organization.
The investigators informed both defendants about the suspicion of embezzlement of someone else's property, committed by a group of persons based on a prior conspiracy. They face up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold certain positions.
The investigation of this case continues. Law enforcement officers are taking all necessary measures to compensate for the damages and bring the culprits to justice.
