Khmilkivskyi Appeals Sentence in HACC

The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court will consider an appeal against the verdict sentencing Anatoly Khmilkivskyi, a deputy of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district council of the Odessa region, to 5 years in prison for inciting to provide an illegal benefit.
As is known, the anti-corruption court found the deputy of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district council guilty and sentenced him to 5 years in prison. His defense lawyer filed an appeal against this verdict.

As a reminder, NABU and SAPO reported suspicions to a deputy of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district council. According to the investigation, the suspect persuaded a local businessman to give 450 thousand dollars to deputies and the head of the settlement council of the Odessa district in order to receive land for rent with the right of privatization for development. The deputy of the district council was exposed immediately after he received the first part of the agreed funds, namely 10,000 dollars.
We also reported that the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office referred the case to court on suspicion of the former head of the State Migration Service, Maksym Sokolyuk.
