Lviv Rescuer Fined for Bribery
The Frankivskyi District Court of Lviv sentenced a State Emergency Service employee who was detained for taking a bribe and promised to arrange a deferral of mobilization for a draft evader. The court sentenced him to a fine of UAH 224,000.
According to the verdict, which was published in the court registry in December 2024, Oleh Chuma, working as a firefighter and rescuer of the Lviv Region State Emergency Service, in July 2024 promised a man who was conscripted to agree to update his military registration data and receive a deferment. He assured that he had connections in the CCC and could influence the military enlistment office employees. Law enforcement officers detained him after receiving a bribe of $5,500. Given that almost all the money was counterfeit, Chuma's client cooperated with law enforcement officers.
In court, the accused pleaded guilty to a criminal offense (Part 2, Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - abuse of influence). He said that he had to give part of the money to the TCP employee and keep the rest for himself.
The case was considered by Judge Yuliya Markiv, who examined all the evidence and found the accused guilty of abuse of influence, imposing a fine of UAH 224,000. The verdict can still be appealed.
