The suspect allowed the felling and sale of trees for bribes. He faces up to ten years in prison for the crime, the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Defense of the Western Region reported on March 19.

According to the investigation, in early 2023, the official involved local residents in deforestation, who, under his cover, cut down valuable wood of various species in the border zone, and then transported it to underground sawmills and sold it.

On average, one cubic meter of goods cost 2 thousand UAH. According to preliminary data, environmental damage from such illegal activities can reach several million UAH.

In January 2025, the 41-year-old organizer offered a local businessman a job exporting and selling timber on a permanent basis. He was detained while receiving a 36,000 UAH bribe.

The border guard was suspected of illegal logging, receiving unlawful benefits, and misappropriation of someone else's property (Part 2 of Article 246, Part 3 of Article 368, Part 4 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). For this, he faces up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The attacker has now been suspended from his position. He was given a preventive measure of UAH 121,000 in bail.
