In Zakarpattia, law enforcement officers detained a battalion commander and his subordinate for attempting to receive a bribe of $5,000 for the transfer of several servicemen to the rear. The organizers of the corruption scheme were a 36-year-old lieutenant colonel and a 24-year-old soldier who acted as a mediator. Both participants of the scheme were arrested.
As reported by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense of the Western region, the battalion commander estimated the possibility of including a subordinate in the list of military personnel remaining for service in Zakarpattia at 1.3 thousand dollars. For the transfer of several servicemen to the rear, he offered his leadership a bribe of 5,000 dollars.
The soldier-intermediary was detained after receiving the second tranche of the bribe, amounting to 800 dollars, and his supervisor - during the transfer of 5 thousand dollars. Both suspects were remanded in custody with the possibility of bail.
Law enforcement officers are currently investigating the possible involvement of other persons in the corruption scheme. For such actions, the battalion commander and his accomplice may be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
