Engineer of Odesa municipal enterprise to face trial for $2,700 bribe

The investigation into the chief engineer of the municipal enterprise "Odessa Coast" who is accused of corruption has been completed in the Odessa region. The case has been referred to court.
This was reported on October 27 by the Main Directorate of the National Police of the Odessa Region and the Odessa Regional Prosecutor's Office.
According to the investigation, a local businesswoman asked the official to help her obtain a permit to set up temporary commercial structures near the sea. The man said he would only be able to help for a fee of $2,700. Without the payment, he said, it would be "impossible" to obtain permits.
The businesswoman contacted law enforcement, and the bribe was documented. The official was detained immediately after the entire amount was transferred, and the money was seized as evidence. Investigators also established that the man acted as an intermediary between the entrepreneurs and the city council department, offering to "resolve the issue" with the permits.
He was informed of suspicion under Part 5 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The man faces up to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property and a ban on holding certain positions. For the duration of the investigation, the court chose a preventive measure for the defendant in the form of detention with the right to post bail, which he used.
