In Dnipro, law enforcement officers have uncovered a scheme to embezzle budget funds during the purchase of natural gas for a higher educational institution (HEI). The amount of losses is almost 1.2 million hryvnias. The director of the enterprise and an official of the HEI are suspected of the crimes. The pre-trial investigation has been completed.

This is stated on the website of the regional prosecutor's office.

According to the investigation, in 2021, the head of the company unreasonably concluded additional agreements to the contract with the university, in which he reduced the volume of gas supplies and at the same time increased the price for it.

In April, he was charged with embezzlement of budget funds in particularly large amounts (Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The company director faces seven to twelve years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years and confiscation of property.

As of June 21, the indictment against the head of the enterprise was sent to court. Earlier, an official of the educational institution was also informed of the suspicion under Part 2 of Article 364 (abuse of official position, which caused grave consequences) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for three to six years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years, with a fine of 8,500 to 17,000 hryvnias.

The case materials on this crime were also transferred to the court.

We previously reported that the appeal will consider the case of the former Kherson OVA officer.
