The plot of the case: operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police, together with the military counterintelligence of the SBU, detained Taras Bilobryvka, a doctor at the Military Medical Clinical Center of the Western Region, for bribery. According to the investigation, the doctor demanded $1,500 in bribes from the serviceman for a medical opinion, for which he had legal grounds.
As reported on Wednesday, March 25, in the Western Region's Special Prosecutor's Office for Defense, a vascular surgeon at a military hospital demanded $1,500 from a soldier who, due to his health, had legitimate grounds for serving in the rear, for processing medical documents.
For this amount, the doctor promised to ensure the issuance of a medical certificate with the status of "limited fitness", and also assured of the possibility of influencing the decision of the military medical commission, which was to confirm this conclusion.
In case of refusal to provide an illegal benefit, he threatened to create artificial obstacles in the exercise of the military serviceman's legal rights. The serviceman was forced to agree to such conditions, at the same time turning to law enforcement officers and continuing to act under their control.
The doctor was detained after receiving the agreed amount in the cabin of his car on one of the streets of Lviv. The detainee was informed of suspicion of abuse of influence (Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The court chose for him a preventive measure in the form of night house arrest, which the prosecutor's office appeals as too lenient. Law enforcement officers do not disclose more details of the case.
