"Bribe for the return of smuggled cigarettes" by Ivan Boshkov

Case story: in early March 2026, it became known that Ivan Boshkov, a judge of the Reniyskyi District Court of the Odessa region, was detained on suspicion of receiving illegal benefits. This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office.

The judge was detained as part of a fraud and embezzlement case on suspicion of actually receiving a bribe. On March 6, the prosecution filed a motion with the High Anti-Corruption Court to apply a preventive measure in the form of detention.

According to the investigation, on January 29, the Reniysky District Court received materials regarding the driver's administrative liability and the resolution of the issue of tobacco products without excise tax stamps seized from him. During the conversation with the applicant, the judge proposed to make a decision on the return of the seized property for illegal gain. He hinted at the transfer of funds in currency (euro), noting that the applicant should interest him in order to avoid confiscation. The judge was detained while receiving 800 euros and 300 US dollars.

The High Anti-Corruption Court took Judge Boshkov into custody with the alternative of 2 million UAH bail. Later, the case was transferred to the NABU and the SAPO. Therefore, they requested to extend Boshkov's arrest for another two months.

The motion of the NABU detective, approved by the head of the SAPO, to extend the term of detention of the suspect (Boshkov - ed.) in criminal proceedings - is partially granted. To extend the term of the preventive measure in the form of detention of the suspect until June 29, 2026 inclusive. To set bail for the suspect in the amount of UAH 1,000,000

At the end of June 2026, the High Anti-Corruption Court extended the detention of Ivan Boshkov, a judge of the Reniyskyi District Court of the Odessa region, until August 21, but reduced his bail from UAH 1 million to UAH 500,000.

Persons potentially involved in corruption schemes: no information is available from open sources about possible accomplices.

Assets: in the declaration for 2025, Boshkov indicated that he owns a land plot and a room in the Odessa region, and also indicated another right to use a residential building and land plot together with his wife.

In addition, Boshkov indicated that in 2024 he purchased a Toyota RAV4.
