Case story: On July 15, 2025, the SSU, together with the police, detained Yevhen Chernyuk, a state inspector of the customs value control department of the Lviv customs, for taking a bribe of $1,600. According to law enforcement officers, the customs officer earned money by importing cars into Ukraine.
As reported by the SSU and the Lviv region police, the customs officer received kickbacks from representatives of commercial structures for not creating artificial obstacles and not increasing customs payments when importing foreign cars into Ukraine.
Law enforcement officers gradually documented the fact that the perpetrator was extorting a bribe from a representative of an importing company for the import of cars. The official was caught red-handed while receiving part of the money
As part of the criminal proceedings, searches were conducted at the place of residence and work of the person involved, as well as in the administrative premises of the Lviv Customs. Law enforcement officers are not disclosing more details of the case. According to ZAXID.NET journalists, Yevhen Chernyuk, a state inspector of the customs value control department of the Lviv Customs, was detained.
The issue of reporting the suspect of bribery (Part 3, Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) is currently being resolved. Other people involved in the scheme are also being identified.
In December 2025, it became known that the Horodotskyi District Court of Lviv Region sentenced former Lviv customs officer Yevhen Chernyuk for bribery and abuse of influence. According to law enforcement, he earned money by importing cars. The court sentenced him to a fine of UAH 85,000 and a ban on working in customs for 1.5 years.
As stated in the verdict, which was published in the court registry in December 2025, the state inspector of the customs value analysis and control department of Lviv Customs accepted bribes to influence the decision-making process regarding the import of cars into Ukraine.
In June 2025, the customs officer received $100 for not creating artificial obstacles to customs clearance of a BMW 530d, as well as another $300 for influencing his colleagues regarding three other cars. In July 2025, the customs officer received another $1,200 for influencing his colleagues regarding the import of other cars.
He entered into a plea agreement with the prosecutor. From Yevhen Chernyuk's declaration it is known that he no longer works at the Lviv Customs. The verdict states that he serves in one of the military units.
This case was considered by Judge Olga Ferentz, who examined all the materials and arguments. She approved the plea agreement and imposed a penalty of 85 thousand UAH with a 1.5-year ban on working in customs authorities. The state also confiscated 400 dollars. The verdict can still be appealed.
Persons potentially involved in corruption schemes: no information is available from open sources about potential accomplices.
Assets: according to the declaration for 2024, he owns a residential building in the village of Uladivske, and also in 2024 he purchased an apartment in Lviv. He drives a 2016 AUDI a3-etron, which he also purchased in 2024. He declared over 350 thousand UAH of annual salary at customs and over 850 thousand UAH from the alienation of movable property. He keeps 23 thousand dollars in cash.
Persons who should have reacted: law enforcement agencies responded to Chernyuk's criminal activities in a timely manner, but the official should be suspected.
Scandals: was not seen as a figure in other scandals before the corruption scheme emerged.
