Case story: In November 2025, the Mostyskyi District Court of Lviv Oblast closed the criminal case against Lviv customs officer Ihor Izio, who was accused of bribery, due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. Previously, the court found the customs officer guilty of a criminal offense, but the verdict was overturned on appeal.
The decision to close the criminal proceedings was published in the court registry in November 2025. Previously, ZAXID.NET reported that customs officer Ihor Izio was suspected of receiving a 1,500 UAH bribe for unhindered import of cargo through the Shehyny checkpoint. The customs officer was detained in 2020 after transferring the money.
During the trial, Ihor Izio denied his guilt and assured that he had not taken a bribe. He claimed that the driver had problems with the completed declaration, because the engines he wanted to import into Ukraine were weighed incorrectly. In addition, the scales at the checkpoint were faulty. In the end, he helped the driver to register the goods, but he did not receive any bribes from him. In 2024, the Mostyskyi District Court found the customs officer guilty of taking a bribe and imposed a fine of UAH 25.5 thousand. The verdict did not enter into force, as it was overturned by the Court of Appeal.
The prosecutor called the sentence too lenient and demanded a prison sentence, while the customs officer and his lawyer wanted a new trial, not admitting guilt. The panel of judges partially granted the appeals and sent the case for a new trial, overturning the imposed sentence.
However, a new sentence was never passed, as the accused filed a petition for release from criminal liability due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. On November 3, 2025, the court granted his petition and closed the criminal proceedings. Currently, Ihor Izio works as the Chief State Inspector of Department No. 3 of the Mostyska Customs Post of the Galician Customs.

Izio's wife Olesya Myroslavivna has cash in the amount of $7,000, Izio Ihor Ihorovych has cash in the amount of $9,000, and Izio's daughter Marta Ihorivna has cash in the amount of $2,000.
Persons who should have reacted: in the case of Izio, law enforcement officers reacted in a timely manner, however, the court closed the case.
