Case story: the qualification and disciplinary commission of prosecutors decided to dismiss Elviy Kerimov, a prosecutor of the Chornomorsk District Prosecutor's Office of the Odessa region, who is suspected of extorting a bribe from a participant in a traffic accident.
The meeting of the Qualification and Disciplinary Commission of Prosecutors was held on March 26. The Qualification and Disciplinary Commission decided to dismiss Elviy Kerimov, who has been working in the prosecutor's office since 2008, and he has held the position of prosecutor of the Black Sea District Prosecutor's Office since March 2025.
Law enforcement officers suspect Kerimov of extorting a bribe. According to investigators, in July 2025, an accident occurred involving a Honda Dio AF 27 moped and a BMW X5 car. It was established that the moped driver crashed into a parked car, and as a result of the accident, the passenger of the two-wheeler was injured. The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigator Maksym Chashchyn, who also recorded the fact of the accident itself. In turn, Elviy Kerimov was one of the prosecutors who carried out procedural management in the criminal proceedings.
At the end of July 2025, a court in the Odessa region allowed the confiscation of the vehicles involved in the accident. At the same time, investigator Maksym Chashchyn, on the instructions of prosecutor Elviy Kerimov, began to demand a bribe from the driver of the BMW X5. For $800, law enforcement officers promised the driver to expedite the removal of the car from the impound lot, and $7,000 was promised to be transferred to the lawyer for the closure of the criminal proceedings.
Law enforcement officers detained Chashchyna and Kerimov and charged them with bribery. In October 2025, they were placed under preventive detention with the possibility of posting bail of UAH 1.5 million. On March 3, 2026, the Black Sea City Court of Odessa Region announced the verdict for the investigator. As part of the plea agreement, the investigator was sentenced to five years in prison, but was released from serving the sentence with a probationary period of 3 years.
Elvia Kerimov was suspended from his position on October 10, 2025, with salary, and on March 26, 2026, the Qualification and Disciplinary Commission of Prosecutors adopted a decision to dismiss him.
