Case story: In April 2025, the Rivne City Court sentenced an associate professor at the Stepan Demyanchuk International University of Economics and Humanities (MEHU) for bribery.
Defendant Vitaliy Mykulets received $850 from an applicant for admission to another educational institution. For this, the official was fined UAH 42,500.
According to the investigation, Associate Professor of the Department of Civil Law of the MEGU Vitaliy Mykulets received a bribe of $850. For this money, Mykulets allegedly promised to influence officials of the Rivne Professional College of the National University of Life Resources and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine in order to organize the enrollment of an applicant to the educational institution. On July 31, 2024, the accused received the first part of the amount in a Hyundai Santa Fe car, and on December 26, the associate professor was given the rest of the amount at the university.
Vitaliy Mykulets fully admitted his guilt and requested a punishment, taking into account that he is raising three children and has recently been working not as a dean of the faculty, but as an associate professor of the department, so he has a lower salary.
Judge Serhiy Naumov found Vitaliy Mykulets guilty of Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of influence) and fined him UAH 42,500. The decision can still be appealed in the Court of Appeal.
