Case story: In early June 2025, the Yavoriv District Court of Lviv Region sentenced Chortkiv District Council deputy Vasyl Okhota, who tried to bribe a border guard. He was fined UAH 17,000, and the bribe itself was confiscated as state revenue.
According to the verdict, which was published in the court registry, the incident occurred in early May 2025 at the Krakivets-Korchova checkpoint in the Lviv region on the border with Poland. The deputy of the Chortkiv district council, located in the Ternopil region, offered the border guard a $300 bribe for unhindered border crossing.
The border guard refused the bribe and criminal proceedings were initiated against the deputy under Part 1 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. From the portal "Judiciary", it is known that this is Vasyl Okhota. The website of the Chortkiv District Council indicates that he is 62 years old, he is non-partisan, but was elected from "European Solidarity".
The accused entered into a plea agreement with the prosecutor. The case was considered by Judge Dmytriy Povoroznyk, who examined all the materials and found Vasyl Okhota guilty of a criminal offense, imposing a penalty of UAH 17,000 in fines, and $300 in bribes to be confiscated as state revenue. The court's verdict can still be appealed.

Assets: in his 2024 declaration, Vasyl Okhota indicated that he owns two land plots and a non-residential building. At the same time, his wife Oksana owns an apartment in Husyatyn.
In addition, the deputy declared a UAZ 469 car, the cost of which he decided not to indicate.
Okhota's income for the same year was UAH 187,763, his wife received UAH 04,121 in pension. At the same time, the couple did not declare any monetary assets.

Scandals: Before the corruption scheme, Vasyl Okhota was not seen as a figure in other scandals.
