Case story: On January 3, 2025, under the procedural guidance of prosecutors of the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office of the Ternopil Regional Prosecutor's Office, the mayor of Koropets, Mykola Tymkiv, was notified of suspicion of extortion and receiving an unlawful benefit in the amount of $1,000.
The official was charged with abuse of official position for personal gain, accompanied by extortion (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation established that a local entrepreneur, planning to start clay mining and brick production on the basis of the purchased brick factory, faced the problem of extending the lease of the land plot under the enterprise. The village head, aware of the situation, demanded $1,000 for assistance in concluding a new lease agreement.
Law enforcement officers detained an official at a public catering establishment while he was receiving an illegal benefit. The operation took place in accordance with the provisions of Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The official was given a preventive measure in the form of detention with the right to post bail of UAH 151,400. The bail money was already deposited into the account on January 6, and he was released from the pre-trial detention center on the same day.
Persons potentially involved in corruption schemes: it is known from open sources that Mykola Tymkiv had no accomplices.
Assets: in his 2023 declaration, Mykola Tymkiv indicated that he owns two land plots and a residential building in Koropka.
In addition, the official owns a Daewoo Matiz car, but he did not specify its cost.
Tymkiv's income for 2023 was UAH 273,041, and his wife Alla's was UAH 202,354.
As savings in Tymkiv's bank account, there are 15,000 UAH.
Persons who should have reacted: law enforcement agencies responded in a timely manner to Mykola Tymkiv's criminal activities, presenting him with a suspicion.
Scandals: Before the corruption scheme, he was not seen as a figure in other scandals.
