The plot of the case : Varakin's case has been going on since January 2017, when the General Inspectorate of the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine detained him while handing over a bribe of $1,000 to the military prosecutor of the Kirovohrad Garrison of the Southern Region of Ukraine for not filing an appeal against the decision of the Commercial Court of the Kirovohrad Region.
With this decision, the claim of the military prosecutor of the Kirovohrad Garrison to invalidate the land lease agreement concluded in 2010 between the Kirovohrad City Council and an individual entrepreneur was rejected.
The story with Varakin dragged on for five long years, and as recently as 2022, the High Anti-Corruption Court found the former deputy prosecutor of the Kirovohrad region guilty of offering and providing an illegal benefit and sentenced him to six years in prison.
"On January 20, 2022, the High Anti-Corruption Court announced a verdict by which the former deputy prosecutor of the Kirovohrad region was found guilty of offering and providing an illegal benefit in the amount of 1,000 USD to an official in a responsible position, and was sentenced to 6 years in prison." - informs SAP.
The prosecutor's office added that the judges also decided to confiscate half of Varakin's property with the deprivation of the class rank of senior advisor of justice, as well as with the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions for a period of 3 years.
Persons potentially involved in corruption schemes: it is not known from open sources who are Varakin's alleged accomplices.
Wealth: In his 2017 tax return, he listed an apartment, a car and $5,000 in cash from his wife, and also noted that he had $2,000 and $24,000 that he lent to third parties.
