Case story: In early July 2026, the Slavutysk City District Court found the head of the Berezdivska Village Council guilty of embezzling almost UAH 1.9 million of budget money during the purchase of equipment for schools. The official was sentenced to seven years in prison with confiscation of property.
The Khmelnytskyi Regional Prosecutor's Office reported the verdict. According to the investigation, at the end of 2024, the head of the community organized the purchase of a laser tag set for teaching the subject "Defense of Ukraine" and multimedia sets for the New Ukrainian School with a total cost of almost UAH 1.9 million.
Law enforcement officers established that the official had forged official documents, stating that the equipment had allegedly already been received and transferred for storage. Based on this, the contractor was transferred budget money, although the equipment had not actually been delivered at that time.
According to the prosecutor's office, the equipment was delivered to the educational institution only in February 2025, when the pre-trial investigation was already underway.
The official was informed of the suspicion in August 2025. The prosecutor's office does not name him, but it is likely that he is referring to Viktor Vaskivsky, the head of the Berezdiv village council, who was removed from office after the suspicion was announced.
The court found the official guilty under Part 5 of Article 191 (embezzlement of property on an especially large scale) and Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (official forgery). He was sentenced to seven years in prison with confiscation of property. The sentence can still be appealed in the court of appeal.
Persons potentially involved in corruption schemes: in this scheme, Viktor Vaskivskyi acted independently.
Assets: In his 2025 tax return, Vaskivskyi indicated that he owns a residential building and three plots of land. In turn, his wife Lyubov also owns a plot of land.
In addition, in 2024, the official purchased a new car - a Citroen Berlingo (declared cost - UAH 160,000).
Waskivsky's income for 2025 was UAH 672,589, and his wife's was UAH 107,244.
The official declared 400,000 UAH in cash.
Persons who should have reacted: law enforcement agencies responded promptly to Waskivsky's criminal activities, charging him with suspicion.
Scandals: Before the corruption scheme, he was not seen as a figure in other scandals.
