The plot of the case: in May 2024, it became known that the director of the Kamianets-Podilskyi State Historical Museum-Reserve had awarded himself bonuses and additional payments, and had not initiated the repair work for which the city authorities had allocated money.
During the audit, employees of the State Audit Service established that the museum director assigned illegal additional payments to himself and the management from January 2020 to September 2023. In addition, he never initiated the repair work for which he received money from the city budget.
Auditors documented quite significant violations with capital expenditures. This concerns the performance of work by two contracting organizations for UAH 3.3 million. One contractor company “forgot” about the received advance payment, and the other did not perform the required amount of work
The institution does not provide the name and surname of the suspect, however, it is known that the long-time director of the museum is Oleksandr Zaremba. As Opendatabot specifies, he is in the unified state register of persons who have committed corruption or corruption-related offenses.
A series of illegal actions by the official led to losses of over half a million hryvnias. Part of the illegal payments has already been returned to the city budget.
Later, the Kamianets-Podilskyi City District Court sentenced the director of the local museum-reserve, Oleksandr Zaremba, for abuse of office. The official assigned illegal bonuses and additional payments, for which he received a two-year probationary period.
As stated in the verdict, from January 2020 to September 2023, the director of the Kamianets-Podilskyi State Historical Museum-Reserve, Oleksandr Zaremba, assigned illegal additional payments to himself and the management team.
Oleksandr Zaremba fully admitted his guilt and repented.
Judge Ksenia Shulga found the museum director guilty under parts 2 and 3 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of official position), but released him from the main punishment and imposed a two-year probationary period. The decision can still be appealed in the court of appeal.
