USD 700 for deferment: college officials to stand trial

Four men will be tried in the Ternopil region, suspected of extorting $700 for a conscript's college education, which gave them the right to deferment from military service during mobilization.
In October 2025, law enforcement officers caught the head of one of the colleges receiving an illegal benefit. He promised to arrange a conscript for training, issued an enrollment order. The recruit transferred $700 to him through intermediaries.
Law enforcement officers documented the fact of the money being received by the acting director of the college. He and one of the intermediaries were immediately informed of the suspicions and preventive measures were chosen in the form of detention with the possibility of paying a bail of over 242 thousand hryvnias. Another intermediary involved in the placement in the educational institution in this way evaded the investigation and was abroad. After his return, he went into hiding, but he was detained and another person was exposed
The men are charged with receiving an illegal benefit by an official, aiding and abetting in its receipt, as well as influencing decision-making by officials by prior collusion by a group of persons under Part 2, 5 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
