Village council head in Odesa region suspected over UAH 95,000 bribe

In the Odesa region, the head of one of the village councils of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district was detained on suspicion of receiving illegal benefits. According to the investigation, the official demanded 95 thousand hryvnias for assistance in renting a land plot for business.
This was reported by the press service of the Odessa region police.
According to law enforcement, a businesswoman asked the official to explain the procedure for renting land for a gas filling station. Taking advantage of the situation, the head of the village council offered "help" in obtaining a plot of land with an area of 0.0414 hectares in exchange for a monetary reward.
She, the police noted, promised to influence the consideration of the issue by the land commission, its submission to the council session and the subsequent adoption of a decision to lease the land for a period of 49 years. The official estimated her services at 95 thousand hryvnias. After receiving the money and a statement about fulfilling the promise, she was detained.
The woman was charged under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - receiving unlawful benefit by an official holding a responsible position. The sanction of the article provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in relevant activities and confiscation of property.

The metropolitan police also detained the head of the structural unit of the "Management Company for the Maintenance of the Housing Fund of the Solomyansky District" and his accomplice for extorting $3,000 from an entrepreneur in exchange for renting a communal space with an area of over 140 square meters.
