SBI Exposes Combat Pay Scheme Involving Colonel’s Wife image

The State Bureau of Investigation has exposed a medical colonel who helped his wife collect nearly 1 million in combat pay while staying in the military.

The SBI employees reported the suspicion to the colonel of the medical service and the soldier who issued combat payments to the nurse who stayed at home. The military was also notified of the suspicion

According to the SBI, in June 2022, a colonel of the medical service of one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine arrived in Eastern Ukraine to perform combat missions. His wife was not in the military and was at home with the child.

However, the colonel agreed with the commander of the medical company and in July 2023 "hired" his wife to serve in the unit. 

"The woman never showed up at the place of deployment of the unit, but on the basis of fictitious documents, she received combat payments every month. Thus, for 8 months of alleged service, she illegally received almost 1 million hryvnias

- the message says.

The soldier, his wife, and the commander of the military unit were informed of the suspicion of embezzlement of other people's property by abuse of official position, in particularly large amounts based on a prior conspiracy by a group of persons, under martial law conditions (Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The commander of the medical company was also informed of the suspicion of drawing up knowingly false official documents (Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The sanction of the articles provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to 12 years with confiscation of property.
