SBI Exposes Fuel Embezzlement Scheme in Military Unit image

The State Bureau of Investigation has exposed five criminals who were stealing diesel fuel from a military unit in the Rivne region. Over the course of three months, the suspects managed to steal more than 100 tons of fuel worth UAH 1.2 million.

According to the investigation, the military unit where the suspects serve was responsible for distributing approximately 10% of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's fuel and lubricants needs. The organizer of the scheme involved three military personnel and one civilian. They overstated the amount of fuel and lubricants distributed, and sold the surplus through private entrepreneurs.

The attackers stole more than 100 tons of diesel fuel, which was intended for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. From November 2024 to January 2025 alone, investigators documented the theft and sale of about 20 thousand liters of fuel worth 1.2 million UAH.

During a special operation, SBI officers detained the organizer of the scheme and four accomplices. They are suspected of creating and leading a criminal organization, theft of military property through abuse of official position (Parts 2, 3 of Article 255 and Part 4 of Article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The articles provide for up to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

It also recently became known that cars imported as humanitarian aid were being illegally sold in the Boryspil district. The criminals received $19,400 for them.
