A former official of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and two employees of the State Enterprise "Ukrspetstorg" have been charged with involvement in a scheme to illegally sell decommissioned warships.

This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office and the Kyiv police.

According to media reports, this concerns the former head of the military property disposal department of the Ministry of Defense, Ruslan Pokotyl.

According to the investigation, a former official of the Ministry of Defense, having access to documents on the write-off of military property, entered into a conspiracy with representatives of the state-owned enterprise "Ukrspetstorg", which was supposed to dispose of the ships.

During the scheme, six Navy ships were sold as scrap metal instead of being scrapped. To do this: the technical condition of the ships was artificially understated; the cost was understated; and a formal competition was held with a predetermined winning company.

The state suffered losses of over 900 thousand UAH, and the selected enterprise received an illegal benefit. The three defendants were notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

We previously reported that a scheme to steal food from a military hospital was uncovered in Khmelnytskyi.
