Food theft scheme uncovered at military hospital in Khmelnytskyi
A group of people were exposed in Khmelnytskyi who were stealing provisions from a military hospital. The products were written off as used and then sold in stores. The perpetrators face up to eight years in prison.
According to the investigation, the suspects include the head of the food warehouse and the temporary acting head of the canteen. They wrote off butter, cheese, cereals, canned goods, and other products as used, and then sold them through local sole proprietors.
Civilian drivers were also involved in transporting provisions, and the products were sold in small stores. Three suspects were detained while selling 150 kg of products.
As part of the investigation, investigators conducted 14 authorized searches, during which they seized $16,000, UAH 115,000, almost €1,000, provisions, packaging material, etc.
The detainees were charged under Part 4 of Article 191 (embezzlement, embezzlement of property or taking possession of it through abuse of official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for five to eight years of imprisonment.
