Former Kolomyia judge sentenced to five years for bribery
On July 17, the High Anti-Corruption Court found a former judge of the Kolomyia City District Court in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast guilty of accepting a bribe. It decided to close the administrative proceedings against a driver who was driving while intoxicated. The judge received $1,200 for this. The sentence was five years in prison with confiscation of half of his property.
This was reported on the Telegram channel of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.
As stated in the post, in July 2022, an administrative protocol under Part 1 of Article 130 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses regarding a citizen who was to be held accountable was submitted to the judge for consideration.
During the consideration of this case, the judge, with the assistance of a lawyer, received from a citizen 1200 USD of illegal benefit for not being held accountable for an administrative offense
The panel of judges of the Supreme Judicial Council qualified the actions of the former judge under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to five years of imprisonment without the right to hold certain positions for 3 years and confiscation of half of his property.
The court's verdict will enter into force 30 days from the date of its announcement, unless it is challenged on appeal.
