The head of the Oknyansk village council of the Odessa region, Oleg Bilous, who was detained two months ago on suspicion of receiving a bribe, has returned to his duties.

In November 2024, he was detained by law enforcement officers while receiving 50,000 hryvnias. According to the investigation, he demanded this money from an entrepreneur who had not paid rent for a land plot for years. The community leader allegedly promised to resolve the debt issue.

After his arrest, Bilous was charged with bribery, and the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 500 thousand hryvnias. He was also temporarily suspended from his position. At the time, it was reported that the official faces up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.

However, in January 2025, Bilous again headed the village council. For example, on January 22, he was spotted at an official mental health event organized by the regional administration. Oleg Bilous represented his community.

Law enforcement officers investigating the bribery case are not commenting on the situation at this time.
