Lviv Customs Officer Detained for Bribes

In the Lviv region, the SSU and police detained an official of the Lviv customs who facilitated the smuggling of jewelry in exchange for kickbacks. In exchange for a bribe, customs officer Ilarion Kravchenko promised not to hinder the import of luxury jewelry into Ukraine, including the Cartier, Hermes, and Van Cleef brands.
As the SSU reported on October 14, in order to avoid detection of jewelry during customs inspection, a Lviv customs officer provided customers with instructions on how best to disguise them. The customs officer estimated his services at 4% of the value of the goods.
Law enforcement officers documented several episodes when, thanks to the assistance of an official, jewelry worth 375 thousand euros was illegally imported into Ukraine. The customs officer was caught red-handed after receiving the third part of the bribe – 10 thousand dollars. In total, he received 15 thousand dollars.
As a reminder, the High Anti-Corruption Court extended until November 24 the term of office of the former head of the permanent commission on architecture, urban planning and land relations of the Kyiv City Council, Mykhailo Terentyev.
We also reported that the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court upheld the verdict sentencing MP Andriy Odarchenko, who fled to Romania, to 8 years in absentia.
