Ex-customs officer to stand trial over $15,000

A former customs inspector will be tried in the Lviv region. According to the investigation, the man provided unhindered import of jewelry from Poland without paying customs duties for money. In total, the customs officer received 15,000 US dollars for his "services".
This was reported by the press service of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
According to the investigation, last fall, a customs officer received an illegal benefit from a resident of the Lviv region for the unhindered import of jewelry of famous brands from Poland without paying customs duties.
For this, in particular, the inspector deliberately did not ensure the customs inspection of the vehicle in which the products "Сartier", "Сartier Love", "Van Cleef" and "Hermes" were transported. The amount of the illegal benefit was 4% of the actual cost of the goods transported. Payment was made separately for each import of jewelry. In total, the customs officer received 15,000 US dollars for his "services"
According to the prosecutor's office, after receiving the last part of the amount - $10,000, the man was detained. During the searches, among other evidence, investigators seized all the illegal benefits received before the detention and part of the previous one - $1,600.
The former customs officer was charged with receiving unlawful benefit by an official under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to ten years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years, with confiscation of property.
It was previously reported that the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court upheld the verdict sentencing former state inspector of the customs clearance department No. 3 of the "Uhryniv" customs post of Lviv Customs, Nazariy Kot, to 3.5 years in prison for abuse.
