Railway official suspected of fake salary scheme
In the Odessa region, the former head of one of the railway's production units is suspected of illegally accruing wages to his son for many years.
According to the investigation, these actions caused the state-owned enterprise to suffer losses of over half a million hryvnias. This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odessa region on April 15.
According to the investigation, for over four years, a 59-year-old official from Podilsk entered data on his relative, who was registered as an electrical engineer, into timesheets, but in fact did not perform his duties and did not show up for work.
According to law enforcement officials, between 2021 and 2025, an employee who was not actually working was accrued and paid 504,621 hryvnia in wages.
As a result, the Joint-Stock Company "Ukrainian Railways" suffered losses in the amount of more than half a million hryvnias, which was confirmed by expert opinions, the report added. As noted by the police, the suspect's actions were qualified under Part 4 of Article 191 and Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. If convicted, the man faces up to eight years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years.
