Volyn Police Chief Fined for Bribery

In Volyn, the head of the Main Police Department was fined for a bribe from an entrepreneur. The Lutsk City District Court sentenced the head of the Logistics and Material and Technical Support Department of the Main Police Department in the Volyn region, Andriy Kovalenko, for abuse of influence. The accused demanded a bribe from an entrepreneur for not obstructing his activities. The official was fined UAH 52,000 for the offense.
According to the verdict, in the winter of 2024, the head of the Main Department of the Volyn Region Police Department, Andriy Kovalenko, agreed with the director of SM-Rembud LLC that he would provide him with 3 to 5% of state budget revenues for the overhaul of the temporary detention center in Kovel and the police building in the village of Manevychi. In return, the accused promised not to hinder and facilitate the activities of the entrepreneur.
Andriy Kovalenko was detained on December 9, 2024, while receiving a bribe of UAH 50,000. In court, the policeman fully admitted his guilt and repented, asking not to be punished severely.
Judge Volodymyr Khylyuk found the official guilty under Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of influence) and imposed a fine of UAH 52,000. In addition, the accused was ordered to pay UAH 3,183 for the examination. The decision can still be appealed in the court of appeal.
As a reminder, the HACC found the former head of the Ternopil Regional Council Mykhailo Holovko guilty of receiving unlawful benefits and illegal storage of ammunition.
