SSU detains officials over $620,000 bribery scheme
Internal security of the Security Service of Ukraine detained two high-ranking officials of regional departments of the SSU for bribery. They were trying to establish an illegal scheme in the amber business in the Rivne region.
The SSU reported this on its website.
According to the case materials, the organizers of the criminal scheme, through an intermediary as their trusted person, demanded 620 thousand US dollars from the head of a monopoly company in the amber business. For this amount, the defendants promised the businessman to close the criminal proceedings that had been initiated against his company earlier.
SSU officers detained the organizers of the scheme and an intermediary while transferring part of a bribe of $270,000.
The investigation into the case is ongoing. The suspects face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The arrest was carried out by employees of the Main Department of Internal Security of the SBU, the service reported. The Service noted that the arrest took place as part of the department's work on self-cleaning.
