Chernivtsi City Council official suspected of drone procurement abuse

The head of the public procurement department of the Chernivtsi City Council is suspected of abuse of office during the purchase of drones - budget losses could exceed one million hryvnias.
This was reported on Facebook by the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office.
According to the prosecutor's office, in 2023, the city council purchased drones through an open auction, overpaying for them by more than a million hryvnias from the budget. According to the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, the equipment was purchased at inflated prices from a predetermined winner.
During the pre-trial investigation, it was established that the expected cost of the drones was formed on the basis of commercial offers from companies that had no experience in selling drones and did not supply equipment. Some of these companies were established shortly before the tenders were held and were under the control of a predetermined winner. At the same time, the offers of other participants were rejected on formal grounds.
The post states that the city council purchased 33 drones from a "selected" participant, whose main activity is textiles and clothing. The sanction of the article provides for a fine of 8,500 to 17,000 hryvnias and from three to six years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions for up to three years.
