Doctors in Ternopil region suspected of bribe for disability
In Ternopil region, an oncologist from one of the district hospitals and an employee of the regional oncology clinic are suspected of receiving a bribe for issuing a disability certificate. According to the investigation, the bribe is about $1,500.
A patient's relative turned to the oncologist of one of the district hospitals to register his disability. The doctor stated that she would have to pay 1,000 US dollars for the preparation of documents and their further referral to the expert commission in Ternopil. She received these funds. Subsequently, on the doctor's instructions, the patient's relative transferred another 500 US dollars to an employee of the team for assessing the daily functioning of a person (formerly MSEC - Medical and Social Expert Commission) in Ternopil. The latter, in the presence of the woman, called the district oncologist and confirmed that the issue of disability would be resolved positively
Law enforcement officers documented the fact of receiving funds. Both women were charged under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The suspects were selected as preventive measures - detention. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years, with confiscation of property.
