Kyiv University Official Detained Over Illegal Immigration Scheme
Law enforcement officers have declared suspicion against the director of the international education center at one of the capital's universities. According to investigators, she promised foreigners in exchange for bribes to help them complete documents and enroll in the educational institution without any obstacles.
This is stated on the website of the National Police.
According to the police, this corruption scheme of legalizing foreigners under the guise of training was exposed as part of the nationwide "Migrant" events. They managed to document two episodes of bribery totaling $10,000.
According to the case materials, the official, who simultaneously holds the position of dean of the preparatory faculty for foreign citizens, received 2 thousand US dollars from a representative of foreigners.
With this money, she was supposed to ensure the issuance of invitations and unhindered admission to the university for five citizens of Central Asian countries. This would later give them grounds to obtain temporary residence permits in Ukraine.
Also, according to the investigation, the suspect promised to influence law enforcement officers for 8 thousand US dollars to approve invitations necessary for enrolling foreigners in the university.
The university official has now been detained. The issue of reporting her to the police under Part 3 of Article 369-2 (Abuse of Influence) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is being resolved. The article provides for up to ten years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
