Lviv Region Doctor Suspected of Demanding UAH 11,500
In Lviv region, suspicion was declared against a neurologist-psychiatrist at a children's hospital in Stryi region. According to the investigation, the doctor demanded a bribe from the father of a child with congenital defects for issuing free documents.
As reported by the press service of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, a local resident turned to the doctor in July of this year. He needed an extract from the protocol of the medical advisory commission regarding the diagnosis of his 16-year-old daughter.
Having received a decision that his daughter needed to study at school according to an individual program, the husband was able to provide her with tutoring with a teacher. After all, since the girl has had musculoskeletal disorders and neurodevelopmental features since childhood, she could not physically attend an educational institution.
The doctor, knowing the child's diagnosis for sure, as well as the fact that the procedure was free, assured that without an additional fee it would not be possible to obtain the necessary document. However, for 2,000 UAH the doctor could help. Understanding that without this document his daughter would not be able to receive a quality education, the father agreed.
A few weeks later, the man turned to this doctor again: he needed to get another extract from the LCC protocol for his daughter. This time for preferential customs clearance of a car imported from abroad. The car was to be registered as humanitarian aid for a person with a disability. As law enforcement officers established, that time the neurologist-psychiatrist estimated his services at 4,000 UAH.
A month later, in September, the child needed to be registered as disabled. The man turned to his doctor for the third time.
Understanding that the child has the right to receive a disability group, the latter nevertheless convinced the father that without his help the desired solution would not be achieved. The cost of services was announced - 5,500 UAH
After receiving this amount, the doctor was detained by law enforcement officers. They documented that in total, the neurologist-psychiatrist received UAH 11,500 for illegal services.
He was informed of suspicion of obtaining an unlawful benefit for himself for influencing a decision-making process by a person authorized to perform state functions, combined with the extortion of such benefit (Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
We previously wrote that three doctors in Odessa are suspected of organizing a scheme to illegally smuggle men liable for military service abroad. According to the investigation, for $4,000 they issued fictitious diagnoses and disabilities to the men.
In addition, we reported that a scheme for providing service in the rear for $5,000 was exposed in the Kyiv region.
