National Guard Officer Held in Draft Exemption Scheme
In Kharkiv, law enforcement officers detained a National Guard soldier suspected of organizing a mobilization evasion scheme. According to investigators, he promised to make a reservation through a critical enterprise for $8,000.
This was reported by the spokesman for the regional department of the SBU, Vladyslav Abdula.
According to the investigation, the organizer of the scheme is a 43-year-old Kharkiv resident who serves in the NGU as a logistics officer at the battalion headquarters.
The scheme was as follows: the "client" was formally employed as an installer at a local construction company with the status of a critical infrastructure facility. After that, the businessman planned to arrange for the draft evader to be booked for mobilization in one of the district trade centers of Kharkiv, and then to arrange for his secondment to the EU with the possibility of staying abroad.
According to the SSU, this service cost $8,000. Law enforcement officers detained the man while he was receiving the money.
The officer was informed of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. If found guilty, he faces up to nine years in prison with confiscation of property.
