HACC Appeals Court Resumes Ex-Judge Novik Case

The High Anti-Corruption Court has resumed hearings on appeals against the verdict sentencing Dnipropetrovsk District Court judge Lali Novik to 5 years in prison for receiving illegal benefits. She was drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As is known, the High Anti-Corruption Court found Judge Novik guilty and sentenced her to 5 years in prison with confiscation of part of the property owned by her. The accused and her defense attorney filed appeals. Later, Judge Novik asked to stop the hearing of her case because she had mobilized into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The hearing of the case was stopped. However, the prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office requested to resume the appeal proceedings.
The motion of the SAPO prosecutor is granted. The proceedings on the appeals of the accused (Novik - ed.) and her defense attorney against the verdict of the High Anti-Corruption Court of October 9, 2024 in criminal proceedings are resumed. The appeal hearing is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on October 19, 2026 in the premises of the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court.
Lali Novak is a figurehead of the EBK base.
As a reminder, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office have exposed Judge Novik for receiving undue benefit. According to the investigation, the servant of Themis demanded and received $2,500 for making a decision in the interests of an individual in a civil case.
After that, the leadership of the Prosecutor General's Office agreed to notify her of the suspicion and the judge was handed the document. Judge Novik was also suspended from administering justice.
