Officers of the National Police of Ukraine have uncovered a scheme in Lviv to sell medical certificates necessary for disability registration. A 61-year-old Lviv resident and a doctor from one of the local hospitals were suspected.

As reported by the National Police, a 61-year-old resident of Lviv organized a channel for the illegal smuggling of men of military age across the state border.

The defendant involved a doctor from one of the city's medical institutions in the criminal scheme.

For money, the perpetrators helped obtain fictitious medical certificates necessary to obtain the status of a person with a disability unfit for military service, without actually undergoing medical examinations.

According to the investigation, the defendants involved several executors in the scheme - so-called runners, who underwent treatment and medical examinations instead of people who were later issued disability documents.

– the National Police statement says.

The police documented the scheme organizer receiving $7,000 from one of the clients for a package of documents to register a fictitious disability.

During searches of the suspects' homes and workplaces, law enforcement officers seized draft records, mobile phones, tablets, medical records, doctors' seals, money, and more.

The participants in the scheme were informed of suspicion of attempted illegal border crossing (under Part 2 of Article 15 Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for up to 9 years of imprisonment. The court will soon choose preventive measures for them.

Investigators are investigating the involvement of other individuals in the criminal scheme who may have contributed to the production of fictitious medical reports.
