SBI detains prosecutor in Chernihiv for bribery

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation detained a prosecutor of the Chernihiv district prosecutor's office for accepting a bribe. The press service of the State Bureau of Investigation reported this.
It is stated that the prosecutor was detained while receiving an illegal benefit in the amount of 2.5 thousand dollars. In exchange for a bribe, the official promised to close the criminal case and help avoid criminal liability for illegal logging in one of the settlements of Chernihiv region.
The State Bureau of Investigation is preparing to declare the detained prosecutor suspected of receiving a bribe (Article 3, Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), after which the court will choose a preventive measure for the official. The prosecutor faces up to 10 years in prison.
According to Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, the prosecutor in question is the Koryukiv District Prosecutor's Office of Chernihiv Oblast. He was the senior prosecutor in the group of prosecutors investigating the case of illegal logging.
