Officials exposed in UAH 14m fortification embezzlement
A large-scale corruption scheme during the construction of defense lines was exposed in the Dnipropetrovsk region, in which military unit officials and civilian accomplices are suspected. The perpetrators embezzled over UAH 14 million in state funds.
This was announced by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko.
According to the investigation, in 2024, the suspects organized the purchase of materials for fortifications at inflated prices - approximately 20% higher than market prices. The controlled enterprises received direct contracts, funds were transferred to their accounts, and then part of the money was converted into cash or legalized.
One of the episodes was organized by a military unit commander with the rank of colonel. In just two months – May and June 2024 – he caused the state losses of UAH 7.3 million. Another UAH 6.7 million was misappropriated by the head of the military unit’s public procurement group, an officer of this group, his wife, and a civilian arbitration manager.
Three suspects have already been placed under preventive measures, and another is in hospital. The investigation is ongoing, investigating the involvement of other officials and possible embezzlement of tens of millions of hryvnias.
Previously, the Security Service of Ukraine exposed a large-scale scheme to embezzle funds from the Ukrainian defense budget , involving the commander of logistics of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the head of the Security Service department in the Zhytomyr region.
We also reported that in the Dnipropetrovsk region, the State Bureau of Investigation exposed the head of the food service of one of the military units, who organized a corruption scheme in the supply of products to the Armed Forces of Ukraine .
