Doctors in Ternopil Region to Face Trial Over Loss of Vision in Patients
Four ophthalmologists will be tried in Ternopil Oblast, due to whose actions 18 patients partially or completely lost their sight. This is reported by the General Prosecutor's Office.
Indictments were sent to the court against three doctors and the head of the ophthalmology department of the district hospital. They were charged with improper performance of professional duties, which led to serious consequences for patients, obtaining an illegal benefit and official negligence (Part 1 of Article 140, Part 4 of Article 368-4, Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ).
The investigation established that the head of the department sold to patients a drug prohibited for use in Ukraine and not intended for ophthalmology.
Three doctors of this institution from March 2022 to February 2023 administered this prohibited drug to patients at the direction of the head. For each injection, doctors illegally received from patients 8 to 34 thousand hryvnias
As a result of such actions, 18 people were injured: 15 patients lost sight in one eye, and 3 lost sight in both. In 7 patients, due to complications of the disease, an operation to remove the eye had to be performed.
Earlier, we wrote about the fact that in Rivne the law enforcement officers exposed four doctors involved in the scheme of illegal registration of disability to avoid mobilization. According to the regional prosecutor's office, doctors falsified medical documents, entering fictitious data about tests and examinations in the medical history, which allowed men of military age to obtain grounds for traveling abroad.
"EBK" also reported that a doctor of the CCE St. Michael's Clinical Hospital of Kyiv and a military serviceman are suspected of aiding and abetting a bribe of $5,000 from a combat veteran for the establishment of a disability group.
