Officials suspected of UAH 1.6 mln embezzlement in Vinnytsia

UAH 1.6 million of budget funds were spent on maintaining traffic lights and street lighting in Vinnytsia Region, the Prosecutor General's Office reports.
Prosecutors of the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor's Office reported the suspicion to the head of the Service for the Restoration and Development of Infrastructure in Vinnytsia Region, the head of one of the departments of this Service, and the director of the contracting company.
They are accused of embezzling budget funds in particularly large amounts during martial law and entering knowingly false information into official documents.
According to the investigation, in December 2022, a procurement was carried out for the operational maintenance of roads of national importance, in particular the maintenance of traffic lights and street lighting. The contract was concluded with a company that did not have the appropriate license.
During 2023–2024, the contractor systematically overstated the cost of electricity by 20% in monthly statements, including expenses not provided for in the estimate.
As a result, over the two years of the agreement, during the period of massive attacks by the Russian Federation on energy infrastructure, UAH 1.6 million was spent from the budget.
Investigative and procedural actions are ongoing. The issue of choosing preventive measures is being decided.
