Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation, in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine and the Department of Internal Security of the National Police, exposed the head of the logistics and material and technical support department of the main department of the law enforcement agency in Volyn for taking a bribe.

This was reported today by the State Bureau of Investigation.

The official demanded "kickbacks" from a local businessman for his companies' participation in tenders for the renovation of office premises. In particular, the overhaul of the temporary detention center in Kovel and law enforcement buildings in the Kamen-Kashyr district.

The official, whose job was to prepare tenders and conclude contracts, promised the businessman that his companies would not only win the tender but also receive payment for their services quickly.

For such assistance, the official demanded from the entrepreneur from 3 to 5% of the total amount of state funds allocated for repairs.

The official managed to receive some money for his "services" - UAH 50,000, after which he was exposed by SBI employees.

The defendant was charged with receiving unlawful benefit (Part 3, Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years.

The suspect was placed under night house arrest and suspended from duty.

It was previously reported that the former Deputy Minister of Social Policy was informed of the suspicion.
