Labor official demanded a bribe to conceal teen’s death

In Volyn, law enforcement officers detained the acting head of one of the departments of the State Labor Service, who promised a company representative not to investigate the circumstances of the death of an underage employee in exchange for a bribe. He faces up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property for the crime.
This was reported on March 31 by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation.
The tragedy occurred in early January 2025 in the village of Zaliznytsia, Kamen-Kashyrsky district, due to a fire in a private woodworking hangar. Rescuers found the body of a 15-year-old teenager at the scene.
Law enforcement officers sent official letters to the State Labor Service demanding an investigation into the accident. In return, the official offered the company representative $5,000 not to conduct an inspection. He involved an intermediary in transferring the money, who received the entire amount in Lutsk on March 26.
The official and the intermediary were detained. They were charged with receiving an illegal benefit by an official (Part 3, Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for a penalty of up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
