Lviv officials to stand trial for embezzling UAH 55 million

In the Lviv region, law enforcement officers have sent an indictment to court against six members of an organized criminal group who seized UAH 55 million during the reconstruction of a military camp, the National Police reports.
The scheme was organized by officials from one of the military educational institutions and a contracting organization. Subcontracting companies were also involved.
To cheat the deal with budget funds, false information about the volume and cost of construction work performed was entered into official documents. In order to withdraw funds "in the shadows" and give legality to financial transactions, the contractor transferred funds to subcontractors for work that they did not actually perform. As a result, the defendants seized budget funds in the total amount of UAH 55 million
Based on the evidence collected, police investigators reported suspicion to six suspects. They were charged with large-scale appropriation of property by an organized group under martial law, as well as official forgery. The court chose preventive measures for the suspects in the form of detention with the right to post bail in the total amount of over UAH 11.2 million.
The indictment against six individuals has been sent to the court for consideration on the merits.
