HACC finds former PGO official guilty of bribery
The High Anti-Corruption Court found the former head of the disciplinary materials preparation department of the Prosecutor General's Office, Oleg Galchenko-Avilov, and his accomplice, Igor Osypovych, guilty of inciting bribery. They were sentenced to 6.5 and 6 years in prison, respectively.
Regarding Galchenko-Avilov's former deputy Zakhar Antipov, who is also accused in the case, the materials were separated into separate proceedings due to his mobilization.
On January 3, 2025, the panel of judges of the Supreme Court of Justice announced a guilty verdict against the former head of a department of one of the divisions of the Prosecutor General's Office and an accomplice, who were found guilty of inciting and aiding in the provision of an illegal benefit to the leadership of the Prosecutor General's Office for making a decision in criminal proceedings to return 4 expensive cars (Mercedes-Benz S400 CDI, Porsche Macan GTS, Bentley Continental GT, Land Rover Range Rover) seized during searches, and the subsequent closure of the proceedings.
The court sentenced the former UCP member to 6.5 years in prison with a ban on holding positions in law enforcement agencies for 3 years and confiscation of $60,100. He was also deprived of the class rank of senior advisor of justice. Accomplice Osypovych was sentenced to 6 years in prison with confiscation of half of the property belonging to him by right of ownership.
The verdict enters into force 30 days from the date of its pronouncement, unless it is appealed to the Appeals Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice.
