HACC remands ex-minister Galushchenko in custody with UAH 200 mln bail alternative

The High Anti-Corruption Court has applied a preventive measure in the form of detention to former Minister of Energy, and later Minister of Justice, Herman Galushchenko, in the framework of the case of criminal organization and money laundering.
According to the court's decision, Galushchenko will be in pre-trial detention for the next 60 days - until April 15.
As an alternative, the former official was set a bail of 200 million hryvnias.
On Monday, February 16, the former Minister of Energy and Justice was informed of suspicion in a case of possible money laundering and participation in a criminal organization.
Law enforcement officials believe that during Galushchenko's tenure, the criminal organization received more than $112 million in cash from illegal activities in the energy sector. Some of the funds were laundered through cryptocurrency and investments in a fund registered on the island of Anguilla.
