HACC Appeals Chamber Orders Medical Examination for Ex-Volyn MP
The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court refused to release from custody former Volyn Regional Council deputy Valentyn Koshelnyk, who was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for abuse of influence. At the same time, the judges ordered him to undergo a medical examination.
As is known, the High Anti-Corruption Court found former deputy of the Volyn Regional Council Koshelnyk guilty. He was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison with a three-year ban on holding positions in state and local government bodies. The court ordered the former deputy to be taken into custody until the verdict becomes final.
Later, former MP Koshelnyk's defense lawyers requested that the preventive measure be changed from detention to house arrest due to the deterioration of their client's health.
The requests of the defense lawyers to change the preventive measure of the accused (Koshelnyk - ed.) from detention to house arrest - to be refused. To oblige the head of the state institution "Lutsk Detention Center" to ensure the medical examination of the accused to determine existing diseases and provide him with the necessary medical care, including with the possibility of involving relevant medical specialists

As a reminder, NABU and SAPO exposed a deputy of the Volyn regional council. The deputy was indicted for receiving illegal benefits in the amount of 35 thousand dollars. For this money, he promised to assist a citizen in purchasing a land plot located in one of the territorial communities of the Volyn region, to create a waste disposal enterprise on it. Later, the deputy was informed of suspicion of abuse of influence.
