HACC Appeals Chamber to review judge Gonchar’s appeal

The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court will consider an appeal against the verdict sentencing Judge Volodymyr Gonchar of the Kropyvnytskyi Court of Appeal to 6.5 years in prison for extortion and receiving unlawful benefits.
As is known, on January 12, the HACC found Gonchar guilty and sentenced him to 6.5 years in prison. The court also banned him from holding positions in the justice system for 3 years after serving the main sentence and confiscated the judge's property. These are the 2006 Renault Megane and 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander cars; 1/2 share of a house in Kropyvnytskyi with an area of 67 square meters and a land plot in the suburbs with a total area of 0.0329 hectares.
In addition, the court imposed the following obligations on Gonchar: to notify the court of a change in his place of residence; not to leave the territory of Ukraine without the court's permission; and to surrender his foreign passports. The defense filed an appeal against this verdict.
